Michela Miazza & Autofoto @ Photo London

Traditional photobooth portraits are typically constrained to the head and shoulders, with faces the size of a fingertip. At PhotoLondon, May 2026, Olympia, AUTOFOTO reimagined the space of this frame by launching a modified analogue photobooth designed to capture full-length portraits. With seat and backdrop removed, and camera-darkroom cabin left in-tact, our cameras’ eye was re-focussed to see into the distance, to capture whole human figure. The effect is a shrinking of the body, to the approximate size of a 1:50 scale architectural figure.

In collaboration, with choreographer and dancer Michela Meazza, three movement pieces were created and performed to the machine’s mechanical rhythm, as it was calibrated to shoot pictures continuously – a flash every six seconds, with a 20 second gap between strips. The resulting photo strips form a sequential storyboard, a visual echo of each performance developed whilst the dancer is still in motion.

Together these compositions create a bigger picture, of the body performing geometric lines, underscoring the impossiblity of repetition

Michela Meazza is a Performer, Movement Director and Choreographer. She has worked across Dance, Theatre and Films. She has been a long-standing member of the Matthew Bourne’s Dance Company, creating and playing leading roles. She received a National Dance Award for Outstanding Female Performer in 2021. Michela is very passionate about the power of Movement and Body language and its potential across various media.
